Bee Craft Timely Reminder – 16th August 2017

How do you spot robbing behaviour? When doing your routine inspection, spend a few minutes looking at the hive entrance, at this time of year it should be very busy. If you notice bees that are flying side to side or in a zig-zag pattern, then this could be an indication of robbing behaviour. A good idea is to reduce the hive entrance (to a single bee width if necessary). This will help your bees to protect their stores from robber bees and the threat of wasps. You can also place a temporary barrier at the hive entrance, with side openings, the hive bees will be able to find their way.
