Bee Craft Timely Reminder – March 22nd 2017

Be ready for those swarms. A bait hive is more likely to be accepted by the bees if it has been in place for some time before they swarm. Photo: Margaret Cowley.

Read up on swarm control and decide now which method you are going to use.

Most colonies will want to swarm and if conditions allow they will go earlier than you think. May and June are the prime months for swarms in the UK, but they have been known in April and even March. Be prepared. Have spare equipment ready and set bait hives up well in advance so the bees get used to seeing them.
