Beecraft News - The latest buzz
On 21st January 2009 Hilary Benn announced an additional £4.3 million funding for honeybees. There will be £2.3 million over 2 years to support the National Bee Unit and £400,000 per year for 5 years for bee health research. The Co-op supermarket has also promised £150,000 in research funding. To read more about it click here

The series showcasing international and domestic documentaries presents Jeremy Simmons' moving film about three American beekeepers as they move their hives thousands of miles to the Californian almond groves for pollination season. But like many of the world's apiarists, the three are suffering from unexplained colony collapse disorder, which can be disastrous to the bees and to the beekeepers' livelihoods. The candidates will be taken through step by step in the practical aspects of honey judging of all the honey types including liquid, soft-set and granulated, ling, blended heather, cut-comb, sections; wax; honey cakes and confectionery; mead; candles and combs of honey.
The course will be led by Michael Badger – Senior Honey Judge by examination in the British, Welsh, Scottish and the Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers’
The workshop will appeal to all who wish to take the various honey judging examinations or take the first steps to becoming involved in the judging process.
Course fee including lunch and refreshments £17.50 per candidate. Applications close 1st March 2010.
