HEBRIDEAN ISLANDS TO BECOME HONEY BEE SANCTUARY.

The Scottish Government have passed a new law that will make it illegal to import any bee other than Apis mellifera mellifera (the native black bee) onto the two islands of Colonsay and Oronsay. The new law will come into force from January 2014 and will make the islands a sanctuary for the native bee, protecting them from cross-breeding with other strains of honey bee.
