ONE THING I forgot to mention in Part 1 (June, page 9) is that the best honey comes from combs that have never held brood. I would not go quite as far as William HerrodHempsall who asked the (rhetorical) question, ‘Would you make honey in your toilet?’ Nevertheless, there are water soluble substances in old brood comb (place a piece of old, black brood comb in water and you will see what I mean) which must to some extent pass into honey stored in them.
