Cleaning wax using a microwave oven

Using the microwave makes cleaning wax quick and easy..

Wash the wax block and break it up into a heatproof dish. Heat on full power for no more than one minute at a time until the wax is liquefied. Pay attention to what you are doing. Wax burns very easily even in a microwave.

Wax retrieved from a solar wax extractor can be dirty especially underneath the block.

Pour the hot wax through a straining cloth into a second container. Take care both the wax and the container will be HOT. This kind of kitchen cloth makes a cheap and easy filter.

A ‘Pyrex’ jug is convenient for pouring wax into the moulds.

Wax cools quickly into prize-winning blocks!
