Video Clip – Beekeeping around 1930

This month’s video clip was sent in by Pete Watt (thank you Pete). It is to be found at http://tinyurl.com/a5djpgb

It gives a fascinating glimpse of beekeeping in around 1930. It is interesting that the demonstrator wears no protection other than a work coat. Also shown are various different hives and how to install a package of bees, which is like a swarm in that it consists of a queen and worker bees but no comb or brood. In the UK, we tend to buy nuclei which are half-size hives containing a colony of bees which has already started to raise brood, but package bees are common in the United States.
