The book is based on the subjects listed in the appendix to the syllabus for Module 8 of the British Beekeepers Association examinations. It will also be of interest to all those curious to know how beekeeping has developed over the centuries, using the beekeepers' ingenuity to solve problems associated with colony management.

The first section on beehives takes the reader from the Leaf Hive in 1789, to the Dartington Long Deep Hive developed in the 1970s.The second section considers beekeeping equipment, from beeswax foundation to the queen introduction cage, and finally looks at beekeeping methods from he beginnings of movable comb beekeeping in Greece, to the Bailey Comb Change used today as part of an integrated pest management programme.

An extract from the book was printed in the March 2020 edition of BeeCraft magazine and now appears in our articles headed - Bee Space to Bee Hive
