Bee Craft Timely Reminder – 22nd November 2017

Image – Metal mesh floor on polyhive bent and needs screwing back down

Before it gets cold and you don’t want to be outdoors for any length of time, now is the time to check your spare hive equipment to see if any of it needs mending.

Maybe the open mesh floors need some attention. There’s nothing worse than planning to move a hive, making the necessary preparations only to find your bees emerge through a damaged or loose mesh floor and your plans have to be abandoned!
Are your supers/spare brood boxes, floors etc intact? Do they need a coat of preservative/paint on your wooden hives or paint on your polyhives? Doing it now will ensure they are dry and any smell will have gone by the time you need to use them next season.
