Make sure all hives are wasp-tight and bee-tight.

A reduced entrance can help the bees to defend themselves against intrusion by wasps and robber bees from other colonies. But it’s not just the entrance. Look over your hives and make sure all the boxes are in good repair and tight fitting, and that the roof fits well and any ventilation holes in the roof have gauze to prevent them from becoming a back door to hibernating queen wasps. Wasps can squeeze through tiny gaps.
